Project Open Hand Ruth Brinker is a heroine of the AIDS movement nationwide. More than a decade ago, she started cooking for seven people and now the organization she founded, Project Open Hand, delivers hot, nutritious meals to 3,000 people with HIV/AIDS every day.  They also provide groceries and individualized nutrition counseling to help clients live longer, healthier lives. Wolf Hollow The staff and volunteers at Wolf Hollow treat injured, orphaned and sick native wild animals and return them to the wild.  They have cared for over 175 different wildlife species, including hummingbirds, herons, ducks, deer, otters, seals, swallows, wrens, eagles, and owls.  Most of these animals are injured or orphaned as a result of human activities, so this organization aims to “Give them a second chance”. Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontieres) During war or other disaster, Doctors Without Borders can deploy a rapid response force of volunteer doctors and nurses to establish field hospitals and battle hunger, epidemics and disease. Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Established in 1982, this national organization has become the nation’s largest private founder of research devoted solely to breast cancer.  In addition to research, the Foundation disseminates breast health and breast cancer information, funds mammography screening programs, and provides other services to improve the well-being of those diagnosed with breast cancer.  In 1998, it is estimated that over 180,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over 44,000 women will die of this disease.  Breast cancer is the leading cause of death of women between the ages of 35 and 54.
