Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
Established in 1982, this national organization has become the nation’s largest private founder of research devoted solely to breast cancer. In addition to research, the Foundation disseminates breast health and breast cancer information, funds mammography screening programs, and provides other services to improve the well-being of those diagnosed with breast cancer. In 1998, it is estimated that over 180,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over 44,000 women will die of this disease. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death of women between the ages of 35 and 54. For breast health or breast cancer information, call their toll-free Helpline at 1-800-I’M AWARE (1-800-462-9273). |
